13-Year-Old Self-Aborts Using Pencil

The girl had no legal access to abortion in Pennsylvania, where her parents must consent.  This is the direct consequence of anti-choice zealots: taking away what dignity, respect, and alternatives left were left to a 13 year old who is being controlled, manipulated, and raped by someone more than twice her age.  Way to go “pro-lifers”, what an awesome accomplishment: empowering rapists like Michael Lisk over 13 year old girls, leading her to desperately jab herself with a pencil.

This is where I fume incessantly because I’m not supposed to group people together and say “You all are disgustingly self-serving people and you hurt other people with your ways” but I feel that this sentence belongs on the heads of the evangelical-Bible-promoting patriarchal Christian Republicans (a loud faction of the republican party I might add) who do not think of later consequences to their actions and they disgust me. Not just as a Democrat, as a pagan, but as a woman, they make me want to pull my hair out and disown my nation of birth. Why? Because they are who the rest of the world sees (again because they are loud) and I don’t want to be painted with the same brush they are. They are entitled to have their beliefs but they are not entitled to make everyone else follow them.

It’s a little bit like the people at a party. Everyone is having a good time, discussing their views and talking generally and then all of the sudden someone shows up in a funky dress. Someone who was already at the party jumps up and goes “Oh my god, you cannot go out in public like that! Go change your clothes!” Now the person can either walk out, feeling humiliated or stand their ground and say “I can wear what I want to.” When no one else does anything about the offending clothes, the “injured” person walks out of the party, fuming “I just can’t stay here with you people. It offends me too much.” 

I’m being non-PC here and usually I would hold my tongue but I am so disgusted with the way these people are acting these days. People other than white-Christian-males are not second-class citizens and the choices we make as a nation have effects on other people. Choices individuals make do not have the same impact and everyone needs to leave each other alone. Legislating morality is a mistake. See Prohibition.
